Some people say that your eyes and brain are not able to recognise anything past a 60hz refresh rate, is this true, or just fallacy?

What does the ASUS TUF VG258QM Gaming monitor provide?

The ASUS TUF VG258QM is a 24.5-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080) gaming monitor with ultrafast 280*Hz refresh rate designed for professional gamers and immersive gameplay. It enables a 0.5ms response time (GTG) for sharp gaming visuals with high frame rates, G-SYNC Compatible ready, delivering a seamless, tear-free gaming experience by enabling VRR (variable refresh rate) by default. This monitor also provides a Full HD experience (1920 X 1080)@120Hz output on PS5 & Xbox Series X/S.

Are humans able to recognise past 60hz?

The myth is that the eye-seeing” limit comes from the fact that most PC monitors (and indeed many televisions now) have a maximum refresh rate of 60hz (or 60 frames per second). If a monitor has that 60 fps limit, the monitor is physically incapable of displaying more than 60 fps.

the nerves in your eyes (Myelinated nerves) can fire between 300 to 1000 times per second in the human body and transmit information at 200 miles per hour. What matters here is how frequently these nerves can fire. However, The nerves in your eyes are not exempt from this limit. Your eyes can physiologically transmit data that quickly and your eyes/brain working together can interpret up to 1000 frames per second.

The USAF, in testing their pilots for visual response time, used a simple test to see if the pilots could distinguish small changes in light. In their experiment a picture of an aircraft was flashed on a screen in a dark room at 1/220th of a second. Pilots were consistently able to “see” the afterimage as well as identify the aircraft. This simple and specific situation not only proves the ability to perceive 1 image within 1/220 of a second, but the ability to interpret higher FPS.

Product Review

This monitor provides a completely manoeuvrable monitor stand to let you view at any angle you would like, horizontal or vertical. This gaming monitor weighs 11.24 lbs – important to know if you’re taking it to live events or college. Its native refresh is 240 Hz, but with overclock engaged, it can hit 280 Hz; our sample did so reliably. Resolution is 1080p (1920 x 1080), which makes it easier on your graphics card to achieve 280 frames per second.

PROS
